However, one major automaker that has struggled to gain any kind of traction in the North American minivan market is Germany’s Volkswagen. The brand virtually invented the genre with the 1950 Type 2 (or Transporter), but left North America with the departure of the T4 Transporter — marketed in Canada as the Eurovan — in the 1990s.
