2011 Toyota Highlander Lands In The U.S.

First seen last month at the Moscow Motor Show, the updated 2011 Highlander will be coming to Toyota’s U.S. lineup as well. Aside from fresh styling, it will also get new features and updated pricing.
First, the updated model receives all-new hood, fenders, lights and front fascia. The hybrid model also receive updates to the exterior to set it apart from the gasoline-only Highlander.
In addition to exterior changes, the new Highlander will feature three-rows of seats as standard equipment. Moving up to the SE and Limited trims will provide standard Bluetooth connectivity, a USB port and XM radio. As for the Hybrid model, it will now offer available leather seating, which also includes heated front seats and a power moonroof.

Destined for “Set as Desktop Background” clicks around the world, pictures of Ferrari’s new 599-based roadster, called the SA Aperta, have been released. The car is set to debut at the Paris auto show. Ferrari says that the SA Aperta was built to celebrate the 80th birthday of the company’s long-time partner, the design firm Pininfarina. We suspect it’s also been developed because Ferrari flat-out said in the past that it wanted to sell a convertible version of the 599.

BMW offers a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six in nearly every single product it sells, from the tiny 135i to the 17-foot long 740Li to the 5000-pound X5 SUV. That’s a dozen different vehicles, all available with the same engine, so when that engine gets replaced, it’s big news. The old twin-turbo 3.0-liter is mostly gone, replaced by a new single-turbo unit typically accompanied by an eight-speed automatic transmission. The 2011 model year is going to be a big one for those betting on electric propulsion. But while the spotlight is on big-name launches like the Nissan Leaf and Chevrolet Volt, it could be a big year for an assortment of second-tier brands betting they can charge into the automotive mainstream.
These are new names like Tesla, Fisker and Amp, companies that are betting their survival on the promise of a new market for battery-driven vehicles. Some, like Tesla and Fisker, are developing products from the ground up, but Ohio-based Amp’s strategy is to take existing gasoline-powered models and convert them to electric-drive.
The maker has just announced a partnership with an unidentified automaker to convert a conventional SUV to battery power. While we wait for more details on that deal, we took one of the maker’s existing products for a spin.
The Chevrolet Equinox is already one of the best new entries in the increasingly crowded crossover market. But how will it perform with electric drive rather than the standard four-cylinder engine? Quite well, we discovered, though our prototype Amp Electric Equinox did have one problem that needs to be resolved before the start-up maker ramps up production this year.
