Audi has officially confirmed that it will sell the TT RS in the U.S. by the third quarter of 2011. The decision came after over 11,500 people expressed interest for the car on Audi’s Facebook page, but we’re pretty sure the company had designs on offering the thing here anyway (because, you know, they told us so). The announcement means that Audi’s high-performance “RS” badge will reappear on our shores late next year, before the RS5’s expected 2012 debut.

The TT RS employs a turbocharged, 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine that’ll be rated for 360 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque in U.S. spec. It mates exclusively to a six-speed manual and Quattro all-wheel drive—good news, since the 265-hp TTS is only available here with a dual-clutch automated manual. We drove a European TT RS and found that the turbo five’s power comes on strong and smooth throughout the rev range; Audi forecasts a 0-to-62-mph time of 4.6 seconds.

Audi has yet to determine pricing or options for the American market, but only the coupe body style is coming our way. Based on the price premium commanded in Europe, we’d guess the TT RS will sticker for around $65,000. If that figure doesn’t dissuade you, get your checkbook ready.
