Mazda will pull the wraps off this BT-50 compact truck concept at the Australian auto show in mid-October. The truck is designed to be a global model and will replace the existing BT-50 (pictured below) that’s sold in Europe, southeast Asia, and other markets around the world.
Mazda says the vehicle is designed for the ever-popular active lifestyle set, and says it will redefine the compact-truck segment with modern, dynamic design. The show-car’s wheels and flared fenders will almost certainly be toned down before the BT-50 reaches showrooms, whenever that may be.
Mazda officials tell us the BT-50 is not slated for sale in the U.S., so this is not a replacement for the Ford Ranger–based Mazda B-series truck that’s still sold here. So “global” does not include us.
